Earrings for purpose: Boise-made jewelry benefits local non-profits supporting women and girls

On this International Women’s Day, we are taking look at a local business that sells earrings to support women and girls in the Treasure Valley.

Owner and artist Solymar Palm opened the doors to Fluff Hardware off of State Street last March. The boutique features both locally made and wholesale jewelry, accessories and home goods.

The Fluff Hardware jewelry is made by female employees in Palm’s 1,000 square foot studio located in Garden City’s Live-Work-Create District.

Jewelry for a cause

“We have a team of 8 hilarious, kind, beautiful and brilliant women that do a little bit of everything including making jewelry, working/managing the retail store, traveling for our Art Festival Events, and hosting our DIY Metal Stamping Parties,” Palm said.

Palm said she hopes the vintage and handmade products foster confidence, courage & leadership in women & girls. One way she is carrying out that mission is by giving 30% profit from the store’s “For Purpose” earrings directly to Boise non-profits that support women and girls in our community.

“I was raised by a fiery and determined Latina woman who refused to be conquered by the horrible hand she’d been dealt in life; severe and debilitating poverty in Mexico,” Palm said. “With the support of the Boise community, she was able to overcome the odds and provide a stable, working-class life for my sister and me.”

Each of the six ‘for purpose’ earrings highlights a different non-profit including the Women’s and Children’s Alliance, Wild Hearts Idaho, Boise Period Project, Idaho Youth Ranch, Dress for Success, and RADCAMP: A Body Positive Boot Camp.

“Since Fluff Hardware’s inception it has been a priority that we pay it forward and do what we can to foster confidence, courage, and leadership in women and girls by providing support to local organizations that do just that; empower women,” Palm said.

Fluff Hardware is open 11 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Sundays at 3109 W. State Street. In addition, Fluff Hardware products are sold online and at art festivals throughout the Pacific Northwest. Locally, you’ll find Fluff Hardware at Art in the Park and the Hyde Park Street Fair.
