As the Capital City Development Corp, Boise’s urban renewal agency, plans to wind down its decades-long central business district project, it is spending fund and tying up lose ends.

Next on the list: retractable barriers on 8th Street.  The street from Main to Bannock is currently owned by CCDC, is often closed for events – including the popular Capital City Public Market each Saturday from April through December.  CCDC will hand the two-block ribbon of pavement over to the City of Boise soon, but first is thinking about adding retractable bollards.

Right now, temporary barriers are used. If the idea passes muster with a variety of agencies and are feasible, bollards could be installed before next year’s central district sunset.
