Albertsons changes course on Meridian Market Street name, too

In 2017, Albertsons announced two locations of high-end grocery showplace Market Street Idaho. But as each store prepared to open, the retailer decided to keep the name of its Boise founder on the outside.

The new store under construction in the former Shopko space on Fairview Ave. at Eagle Rd. will be branded Albertsons Market Street, according to company spokesperson Kathy Holland. A Broadway Ave. location was branded under the regular Albertsons banner after initially being proposed as Market Street Idaho.

Holland says the new Meridian store will be significantly larger than the already spacious Broadway location – nearly 100,000 square feet. That will allow an even broader selection.  It will be laid out all on one floor but will still include the bar and restaurant space, plus in-store Starbucks and other features like its sister location in Boise.

The project is on track for an opening early next year.

It is one of four new stores announced for the Boise area in the next few years, including Barber Valley in Boise, Star and south Meridian.
