MOD Pizza has a second permit in for a Boise store – this time next to Cafe Zupa’s on Milwaukee. The build-your-own fast pizza chain applied for an outlet in Downtown Boise last week, and added filings to remodel a portion of the old TGI Friday’s restaurant on Milwaukee at Emerald this week.

Earlier story – December 21: Downtown Boise getting a pizza place. Another pizza place.

MOD Pizza is set for a new building next to Trader Joe’s, applied for by Hawkins Companies in Downtown Boise. The building is in place of a planned Starbucks drive-through that didn’t come to fruition.

Signage on the site indicates the building will be home to MOD Pizza Boise. That chain is a fast-casual concept with fast-fired pizzas. Pre-made pizza concoctions with names like Tristan and Kevin sit alongside several pre-made salads. Customers can also create their own pizzas or salads from a list of 30 ingredients.

The concept is similar to Blaze Pizza, which has locations in Meridian and Nampa.

MOD has locations in Coeur d’Alene and Lewiston, and is also planning a new store in Pocatello.

The company started with a single location in Seattle in 2008. Since then, more than 400 owned or franchised stores have opened across the US and the United Kingdom, including more than 110 stores in 2017 alone.

The new building will be 3,000 square feet and will not include a drive-through as the Starbucks project would have.

MOD is the latest in a string of new and planned pizza places in Downtown Boise, including The Wylder, Firenza Pizza and the proposed Americana Pizza.

  1. No offense but MOD tried a location two years ago in Meridian and it failed miserably. Personally I’d like to see us move away from assembly line pizza, Mexican or subs. Isn’t it time we brought back some good old fashioned meals? I’d be willing to pay more for a true sit down pizza experience.
