Bakery shuffle: Franz buys Alpicella, moves to new location; Bimbo moves in

A trio of baked goods companies are making changes and additions in the Boise area.

Portland, OR-based Franz Baker acquired Boise bakery Alpicella. Now Franz is consolidating to Alpicella larger space.

KIVI first reported the change late last year. Alpicella launched in 1996 and operated out of a large 50,000 square foot building on Boeing St. off the Broadway exit south of Interstate 84.

Now, production for Franz is moving into the building from its current spot on Benjamin Lane. That old space is just 18,750 square feet and is listed for sale.

The retail bakery outlet on Benjamin Ln. remains open in its current spot for now.

The Idaho Press reports Bimbo Bakeries is also adding a Boise plant. The company leased 20,736 square feet on Eisenman. That company did not provide details on how it would utilize the space or how many people it would employ.
