The former Chapala Restaurant on Chinden Blvd. could soon be home to another Mexican food eatery.

Octavio Fregoso owns the popular La Tapitia Mexican Restaurant on ParkCenter Blvd. in SE Boise. His business entity, El Tapito asked the City of Garden City asked to revamp the facade of the former Chapala. The application indicates Fregoso plans Barrigas Mexican Restaurant for the space.

Chapala closed the 108-seat restaurant last year. It still operates five other locations in Boise, Garden City and Nampa.

The remodel of the restaurant is ongoing. The updates to the facade will require approval from Garden City’s Design Review Committee.
