No really, what’s the frequency? Boise radio stations swap morning hosts

Townsquare Media jolted listeners of two of its radio stations Monday with a sudden shift.

The morning hosts on Mix 106 moved to Wow 104.3 FM, while the morning host on Wow moved to Mix.

Confused? Listeners were too.

In August, the media company abruptly removed Rick Dunn from the air at Wow 104.3. That left longtime partner Carly Cash on the air with Townsquare Media operations manager Jeff Connell who jumped into Dunn’s chair after letting him go.

8 1/2 years ago I got a phone call from a Program Director in Salt Lake City that changed my life. He wanted me to co-host a morning show with some guy they called “Shotgun Jackson.” @theedhill told me “this is a fast moving train. Either get on and hold on or you’re gonna fall off!” I was the only woman in an office full of men who were not afraid to put me in my place. The day I met Rick Dunn I felt like I had known him forever. Don’t get me wrong, he was tough on me. There were many days that I went home and cried because of his critiques, but I developed a thick skin and more importantly I gained my best friend. We did great things together. We had #1 ratings and not so good ratings. We wore the same shirts for a whole year to support the homeless, held a pancaking eating contest that nearly cost me my life! He saw me through major back surgery, divorce, job loss, moving, depression, and poor times. We started “Rick and Carly’s Kids”, hosted Idaho Miss Amazing, Inc., raised $127,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, I could go on and on and on. So many tears and laughing until I couldn’t breathe was common. I always thought in the radio world he would be by my side. Always. Change is Hard. I am not good at it, but sometimes I know we simply have to adapt to our circumstances and grow. I take a lot of peace in knowing that no one can ever take away these experiences and our incredible bond. You may not hear us on the radio together anymore, but he’ll forever be my partner in crime. Here’s a little tribute to “Rick and Carly” and I know and hope and pray that good things are to come for both of us. P.S. since there may not be a lot of future action on this page, please follow me @notthewayiplanned This is definitely one of those “not planned” moments!

This morning, Connell and Cash swapped studios with Billy Jenkins and Charene Herrera. Jenkins and Herrera moved to Boise to replace longtime host Mike Kasper on Mix 106 in 2018. The team previously worked in country formats in other markets across the region.

With today’s change, Mix 106 is on its fourth morning team since 2016 when Kate McGwire left the station.

The ratings for both Mix 106 and Wow Country 104.3 are well off their highs. Both stations came in behind the leaders in their category in the last ratings period. Mix 106 sees its ratings topped by My 102.7 while Wow Country comes in behind 101.9 The Bull among listeners 12 and above.

The company is still advertising for a morning host on Wow Country.
