With three large empty Shopko spaces in the Boise metro area, many are wondering what will happen inside.
For the Nampa location, demolition started in anticipation of a new tenant.
Datum Construction noted on Facebook that its crews started work to demolish the inside, taking out a mezzanine and stripping out the interior finishes. Crews tore out old ceiling tiles, flooring and leftover fixtures.
The large 87,000 square foot store will be split into three or four tenants, according to Datum. The first tenant is Planet Fitness, which will take the far eastern portion of the building, closest to Winco Foods. This will mark the third location for the gym chain in the Treasure Valley, and the first in Nampa.
Shopko started closing stores in the Boise area early this year, before finally closing all its stores in a bankruptcy action.
Andrea Nilson with Cushman Wakefield said her firm continues work on leasing the two empty Boise Shopko locations – on Fairview Ave. and Broadway Ave. Last month she said the firm hoped to close on tenants for the buildings soon.
