If you want a plate of fast-casual Mexican food from a national chain in Boise, choices abound.

Costa Vida, Qdoba, Chipotle, Baja Fresh and Cafe Rio all cater to folks who want Mexican grub in a chain restaurant atmosphere.

There are so many, that one will replace another on Broadway Ave.

A permit will revamp the current Baja Fresh location at Broadway & University Dr. into a Cafe Rio. $400,000 will replace kitchen equipment, furniture, restrooms and more.

The Baja Fresh store across from Albertson Stadium opened in 2005. As of Monday, the store remains open. No word on a timeline for the switchover.

The new Broadway store will bring the total number of Cafe Rio Mexican Grill locations to three in the Boise area. Baja Fresh will drop from three stores to two.
