Macy’s, the large national department chain, continues to struggle.
And, its Idaho presence continues to shrink.
At the start of the century, as The Bon Marché, the chain operated two stores in Boise, plus stores in Nampa, Twin Falls, Lewiston, Coeur d’Alene, Moscow, Idaho Falls and Pocatello.
In a few months, just three stores will remain: Boise Towne Square, Idaho Falls and Coeur d’Alene.
The retailer announced it would slice another 30 stores from its ranks, a nearly yearly tradition of post-holiday closures. The store in Lewiston will close by this spring. It follows the Twin Falls closure in 2018, Nampa in 2017, Moscow in 2016, Downtown Boise in 2010 and others.
The Boise mall store continues to see investment by the chain, including a new furniture department, updated in-store pickup features, and other tweaks.
