In recent weeks, a flurry of questions about a possible Zen Bento on Bogus Basin Rd. filled our inbox.

Last spring, the Idaho Statesman noted the locally-owned rice bowl and salad restaurant would open a new location next to Reed Cycles.

Now, as we approach spring again, the promised restaurant remains vacant. New permits with the City of Boise indicate Zen Bento is moving forward.

Zen Bento will take up the northernmost portion of the building. A full kitchen and serving area will go into the small 1,100 square foot space. The building used to be the Car Tub Car Wash, but Reed Cycles converted it for retail use last year.

Questions to Zen Bento’s owner and the property owner went unanswered.

City staff took administrative action to approve a design review application for the project.

The new spot will be Zen Bento’s third location, including Downtown Boise on Main St. and in SE Boise on Apple St. A location on State St. in Eagle closed last year.

Zen Bento serves a variety of bento bowls, customized with a choice of proteins. They also offer salad, desserts, and drinks.
