National craft and home decor store Hobby Lobby plans its first Boise store, according to a permit application.
The chain applied to convert the former Shopko store on Fairview Ave. in Boise at 8105 W. Fairview. Shopko, the former general merchandise retailer closed last year as the chain entered bankruptcy. It ultimately closed all three local stores and a large distribution center.
Hobby Lobby applied for design review with the City of Boise and would expand the store very slightly – by about 20 square feet.
Hobby Lobby already operates two stores in the area, including on Eagle Rd. in Meridian and on Marketplace Blvd. in Nampa.
It provides a large selection of do-it-yourself supplies, as well as fabric, home decor, frames, and other similar goods.
The Boise Shopko on Broadway remains empty. A location in Nampa will be partially taken up by Planet Fitness. A larger maker of solar products leased the former distribution center south of I-84.
