Many customers of Republic Services in the Boise area received a text with information on their trash service Friday evening.

“EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY Republic Services’ residential collection will begin at 6 am and end no later than 9 pm. to (sic) comply with current health regulations. Please place all cans at the curb or alley the night before or by 6 am on your service day to ensure collection.Thank (sic) you for your help during these difficult times!”

Despite some issues with punctuation and tone, a City of Boise spokesperson says the text messages are legitimate.

“Trash, recycling and compost collection times may be extended to start earlier (by 6 a.m.) and include evening collection hours,” City of Boise Communications Director Karen Boe told BoiseDev. “Please put your cart out the night before your scheduled collection, or by 6 a.m. the day of your collection schedule.”

Boe said the city and Republic don’t expect any other impacts. Collection schedules and service levels will continue – but with the new earlier and later hours. The city will work to get the word out in its usual communication channels in coming days.
