A new tool from Gray Television’s Investigate TV shows the Blaine County area has the highest number of positive tests for COVID-19 on a per capita basis in the country.
The team took data from Johns Hopkins University’s COVID-19 database and cross-referenced it by population. It broke the data down by county.
When you take the 351 confirmed positive cases reported for the area and divide that into the permanent population for Blaine County, it shows a per capita case rate of 152 for every 10,000 residents – the highest of any in the country.
Rockland County, NY comes in second with 131 for every 10,000 residents – followed by two other counties in the NYC metro area.
As of yesterday, Ada County appears far down the ranked list – with 6.4 cases per 10,000 residents.
While the rate of confirmed cases for Blaine is high, the death rate is much lower – with three reported deaths to date, that works out to 0.86 per 10,000 residents – outside of the top 50.
(Note that the Gray TV data displays rate per 100,000 residents – we simplified to rate per 10,000 residents for clarity since Blaine Co. has a total of 23,021 residents).
