A historic Boise depot in a Spanish Mission style will soon house a real estate office.
No – not the Boise Depot – but one with a similar style.
An entity related to Silvercreek Realty Group purchased the Guernsey Dairy Milk Depot at State St. and 25th St. this year. Now the company asked the City of Boise for permission to remodel about 6,000 square feet of the building for office space.
The project will provide space for the real estate office and will cost $280,000.
The Dairy building sits on the National Register of Historic Places – a designation it earned in 1982.
Famed Boise architecture firm Tourtelotte & Hummel designed the building in a Spanish Colonial Revival style, with a similar look and tiled roof of the Boise Depot.
“The corner tower is the decorative focal point,” the nomination form for the building’s inclusion on the National Register notes. “It is slightly battered, with flat buttress-like pilasters terminating above the level of the first-floor eave.”
The building once housed operations for the Guernsey Dairy, which gives it its name. A sales room, mile processing area, boiler room and by-products manufacturing spaces.
“The Guernsey Dairy Milk Depot is of exceptional architectural significance and one of teh (sic) handomest (sic) buildings on State Street in Boise, and the most elegant industrial building in the Thematic Group: one which responds to its location on a residential street and its partial purpose as a retail outlet. The depot is the last and best example of Spanish colonial revival design in the group.”
The cost to construct the building in 1937? $40,000.
The building has been used as various office spaces in recent decades.
Silvercreek Realty launched in 2008 by the Doughty Family. It grew to one of the largest firms in the area, serving across Idaho. The company said it closed $2 billion in sales in 2016.
