Travelers headed east will get a long-awaited nonstop flight in 2020 as planned, despite COVID-19’s impact to the airline industry.

On Monday, the Boise Airport announced once daily, year-round flights between Boise and Atlanta will begin November 20. This is a reversal from Delta’s decision earlier in the year to suspend plans for the new destination in 2020 due to the pandemic, which BoiseDev first reported in May.

“Recruiting nonstop service to Atlanta has been a goal of mine since I joined the Boise Airport in 2012,” Boise Airport Director Rebecca Hupp said in a press release. “I couldn’t be happier about this announcement and look forward to working with our partners at Delta to ensure the success of this route.”

This flight will be the longest route served from Boise, and will connect the Treasure Valley to one of the world’s busiest airports. Along with Atlanta, Delta also has nonstop service to Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City and Seattle. The daily flight is tentatively scheduled to depart Atlanta for Boise at 9:40 a.m. eastern time, arriving at 12:09 mountain time. The flight from Boise back to Atlanta would leave at 1:30 p.m. and arrive in Atlanta at 7:20 p.m. eastern time.

The Boise Metro Chamber called the new flight a “game changer” for business in the Treasure Valley.

“The Boise Chamber has long been an advocate for an east coast air connection,” said Boise Chamber’s President and CEO Bill Connors. “We are thrilled that Delta is recommitting to Boise in this way, and we will do all we can to help make this route successful. Congratulations to the Boise Airport for adding an important new route to the portfolio.”
