The Idaho chapter of Associated General Contractors of America reported that around 54,200 Idahoans are working in construction. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, this is a two-decade high.
The number of workers increased 2.1% from July 2019. The AGC said found four out of five construction jobs had a higher median pay than all other employees’ median pay in Idaho.
Of Idaho’s $80.9 billion in gross domestic product, construction contributed $5.6 billion.
“The growth in Idaho’s construction industry stands out when compared to a 4.1% decline in the industry’s employment nationwide.” Idaho AGC CEO Wayne Hammon said in a press release. “…We continue to see a bright future ahead for Idaho’s construction industry and the tens of thousands of Idahoans it employs.”
The AGC also reported that as of June there were many construction jobs available. Of Idaho’s 6,893 construction firms, 83% have openings in hourly craft jobs.
