The old bar space at Old Chicago is lit up in new hues – and soon will put forth a new offering. The owners of Mai Thai revamped the bar space for Union Block Bar and Eatery.
For now, though, the restaurant won’t open its doors to the public – instead offering its menu up for delivery and takeout. But soon, you’ll get to check out the purple-toned revamp of the space, starting with an opening on January 11th.
The menu is extensive and features a gastro-pub flare. The Old Fashioned Burger features a local beef grind, while the Meatball Hoage mixes pork and beef with marinara, peppers, and onions. A variety of pasta dishes include duck confit, four-cheese mac and cheese, and pork belly carbon era. Flatbreads on the menu include a sausage variety as well as a grilled chicken pesto. Plus, salads, sides, and a variety of share plates round out the offerings.
Union Block Bar & Eatery revamp
Union Block Bar and Eatery kept most of the Old Chicago bar footprint intact, updating surfaces, fixtures and lighting. A cool purple hue shows up in photos posted on Facebook.
It expands the options provided by Mai Thai Group, which opened its Idaho Street restaurant next door in 2003. Mai Thai offers an Asian fusion-type concept next door.
The restaurant adds an option along Idaho St. in the historic Union Block building for which it gets its name. Old Chicago closed up shop last year, leaving a location at Boise Towne Square.
The other side of the space remains listed for lease.
KTVB first reported the new restaurant.
