Developers reveal plan for apartments near Gowen Rd. in Boise

A large vacant site in East Boise near Micron could soon see a large apartment project.

Hawkins Companies held a neighborhood meeting for a concept for a 270-apartment complex on land immediately behind the Columbia Marketplace shopping center at the corner of Gowen Rd. and Federal Way.

The land is owned by JRS Properties III, which is owned by the Simplot family which owns the JR Simplot Company.

A site plan shared with neighborhood meeting attendees showed a series of apartment buildings arranged along Federal Way, as well as further back from the street. The diagram shows both covered and surface parking. Space for a pool and clubhouse is also marked on the plan.

The project would include a current driveway through the site that connects the Columbia Marketplace shopping center and E. Grand Forest Drive.

The Simplot family developed the large-scale Columbia development in the 1990s in the area of Federal Way and Highway 21. It includes hundreds of homes, school sites, and the Simplot Sports Complex. The application for the new apartment complex sits immediately next to the Columbia Village apartments.

Project developers have not yet formally filed with the City of Boise.
