Sunset for Sunrise: Here’s what’s next for State St. brunch spot

The Sunrise Cafe on State St. near Glenwood closed up shop, and won’t reopen the Garden City location. But owner Boomer Godsill has something new planned.

Huck House Brunchette will open soon at 7135 W. State St., after renovations wrap up. A new menu, updated branding, in-house roasted coffee, and more. The large 4,974 square foot restaurant building dates to 1980, and will get a new look and updated concept.

Godsill took over ownership of the local Sunrise Cafes, long operated by his family, in the fall of 2019. Soon after, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and he started making changes. He launched Biscuit and Hogs as a ghost kitchen from the Sunrise store on Overland Rd. in Meridian, and later launched it as a full restaurant.

New Brunchette planned

Huck House will revamp the Sunrise that serves much of Garden City and NW Boise.

Sunrise served up a traditional diner-style menu for breakfast and lunch. Huck Houses promises a more modern take on brunch. It says it will offer dining with locally-sourced ingredients.

Here’s how they describe the concept on the in-progress website: “Huck House Brunchette arises from the search for new ideas to improve by inventing high quality tasty recipes. Our goal for Huck House Brunchette is to guarantee the best brunch for you!”

A partnership with Bellweather Roasters will bring in-house coffee roasting capability to the restaurant. They’ve already roasted up a house Brunchette blend, as well as a champagne brunch roast.

Dishes like high-end eggs benedicts, waffles with fresh honeycomb, and more are featured on the Huck House Facebook page. A menu posted online teases salads, sandwiches, breakfast staples, omelets and more.

Exterior work, including a fresh coat of paint, is underway – as well as changes to the inside of the eatery. No opening date set yet.

The other Sunrise Cafe locations remain open with their original concepts.
