Yep, it’s Topgolf. New golf entertainment venue planned for Meridian

BoiseDev Exclusive

Topgolf will hold a neighborhood meeting this week for a new location in Meridian, ID.

It’s the first formal step taken by the company to build a new center in the Boise area.

BoiseDev first reported a “Topgolf-style” entertainment venue more than two years ago at Eagle View Landing. BVA Development teased the project just a few weeks ago in a video on Linkedin, referring to a “best in class golf entertainment facility that will be a game changer for the Treasure Valley,” without naming Topgolf specifically.

The neighborhood meeting is the first step in the process to eventually build the large-scale golf venue. The applicant would have up to three months to formally file with the City of Meridian to gain approval for the project. Topgolf filed to do business in Idaho in 2019, according to the Secretary of State.

BVA Development’s Tommy Ahlquist declined to comment. A question to Topgolf was not immediately returned.

Topgolf combines a large driving range area with an indoor building lined with suites and and open tee areas. Each bay is decked out with TVs, seating and an area to tee off.

Golfers play interactive golfing games out into the driving range area, which includes targets and other features. Each golf ball has a microchip which allows for scoring and immersive features.

Topgolf markets itself to both experienced golfers and beginners.

Players can buy food and drinks including burgers, nachos and sandwiches. The typical Topgolf also offers corporate events and party areas.

Eagle View grows

The final subdivision application for Eagle View moved the Topgolf site closer to Interstate 84, just to the east of two newly-constructed office buildings. BVA plans other features, including a Hyatt Place hotel, restaurants, retail, medical office, and additional office space.

BVA acquired additional land to the east of the corn maze site that used to include a number of single-family homes, and now owns the property all the way to the Ridenbaugh canal. Crews worked in recent weeks to clear the land for future development of office and parking.

Topgolf boomed across the US in recent years, with dozens of locations. The closest in the region are in Salt Lake City and the Portland areas. Last summer, it teased interest in a Boise-area location with a social media post. After BoiseDev wrote about the post, they jokingly? asked if they could make the turf blue.
