Neighbors hope to stop Meridian night club, file appeal of project approval

Several Meridian residents are trying to stop a large nightclub from opening at 3185 E. Ustick Rd.

Meridian Planning and Zoning approved applicant Brian Tsai’s plans for The Oasis in May, but it wasn’t without controversy. BoiseDev reported here that more than 200 people submitted public testimony during an earlier hearing, and roughly 75% of the comments opposed the club.

Now residents Jon and Cherie Hoeger and Michael and Cherilyn Kynaston have requested an appeal hearing. Over time, residents have opposed The Oasis for many reasons including safety, parking, drunk driving, security, and capacity.

“As a united group of concerned citizens about the Planning and Zoning approval of the Oasis Nightclub at the corner of Ustick Road and Eagle Road, we, the individuals named below as, examples of and on the behalf of a larger group of similarly minded citizens are writing to request an appeal hearing,” the residents wrote in the appeal letter.

The city has not set a hearing date. However, the Oasis will be in front of Meridian City Council on July 13, 2021.
