Meridian park set to expand 40 acres, add several amenities

A popular park in south Meridian is expanding.

Discovery Park, located on Lake Hazel Rd. between Locust Grove and Eagle Rd., is moving into phase two of its development plan, which will add 40 acres to the park and a lot more amenities.

Part of this second phase involves more parking. There are currently 145 parking spaces and this next stage of development will add an additional 526 stalls.

Several major athletic amenities will also be added including three softball fields, six pickleball courts, two tennis courts, two bocce courts, a 40-yard dash lane, a sand volleyball court, a skatepark, and a basketball court.

Additionally, the park will add a hammock hanging area, a 12 stall restroom, a community garden, walking paths, and more.

When complete, Discovery Park will be almost 77 acres. There is currently no public hearing scheduled for phase two of the park.
