A conservative candidate hopes to win the open seat on the Boise City Council this November.
David Jones is running against Luci Willits and Laura Metzler for a seat in District 1 to represent West Boise in the newly created district. City Council Member TJ Thomson will vacate this seat at the end of the year.
Jones’ election paperwork did not include a phone number or email address and BoiseDev has not been able to locate a campaign website or a Facebook page about the candidate. He did not respond to a hand-written note left at his residence requesting an interview for this story.
He touted his conservative beliefs and status as a registered Republican in his bio listed on the city’s website for candidates.
“Anger caused me to get off the couch and enter as a candidate for Boise City Council Seat 1,” he wrote. “I was tired of being angry about property tax increases, the never-ending litany of bonds, levies, lack of transparency from the city government, and not being heard as a taxpayer in Boise, Idaho. The city government as elected officials are responsible to the people.”
At the very beginning of his bio, he discussed his belief in “God the Father and his son,” the American Constitution, “America as a nation of free people and the 2nd Amendment. He is also supportive of “health freedom,” individual responsibility and liberty.
He served in the military for over two decades and has lived in Boise for the past 18 years.
“I first visited Boise in 1988,” he wrote. “It was during that visit I fell in love with the small city with the big city feel. I have not accepted, nor will I accept any monetary contributions for this campaign. I am beholden only to God Almighty and the citizens of Boise for their kindness.”
BoiseDev will profile each candidate for Boise City Council, Garden City City Council and Meridian City Council as they formally file to run for office.
