Live where you work: ‘Vertically integrated’ live/work units proposed in Meridian

A proposed project could bring over a dozen townhomes with built-in home offices to Meridian.

J-U-B Engineers is looking for approval to build 17  ‘vertically integrated’ live/work units in the Verona Subdivision at 3064 Milano Dr., near Ten Mile Rd. and McMillan Rd.

The application letter said there is also a proposed office building in the northwest corner.

“Neighbors who attended the neighborhood meeting that was held for the Verona Live; Work CUP applications reacted very positively to the appearance of the elevations that were shown at the neighborhood meeting and to the proposed live/work units in their neighborhood instead of the higher intensity commercial or office uses. Neighbors were largely in favor of the project because they anticipate that the live/work units will generate less traffic than office uses. Several neighbors also discussed there being a market need for live/works units.”

Each unit would have three bedrooms, a private lower-level patio, a ground-floor office area, and an attached two-car garage. There will be additional parking spaces for visitors using the offices.

J-U-B Engineers letter notes that the design of the units is a ‘modern farmhouse’ that they say meshes with the surrounding neighborhood.

The applicant believes this style of development would be ‘highly desirable’ to residents who want to work from home.

“This type of development is perfectly suited for a young professional with a young family who is building their professional practice and looking to reduce their commute times and improve their family lids and work/life balance or fro an empty nester who is at the opposite end of the spectrum and looking to reduce commute times while retaining a professional office.”

The applicant is looking for a conditional use permit with the City of Meridian.
