Cristina’s Restaurant in the Sun Valley area is closed.

The popular breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot owned by Cristina Ceccatelli Cook no longer welcomes guests to its salmon-colored converted house along 2nd Street in Ketchum.

The restaurant’s phone rings unanswered, its Facebook page has been removed, and a simple note has been left on the restaurant’s website:

“CLOSED! thank you to all”

Last fall, Cook told Eye On Sun Valley that staffing challenges have plagued the eatery, forcing a ten-day closure last summer, and put a stop to catering gigs. Reporter Kate Daly said Cook recently turned 70 and teased that retirement might be ahead. Cook said she’d retire “eventually.”

The restaurant closed going into the slack season in the resort town and didn’t reopen for the winter.

Cristina’s joins a long line of Idaho restaurants that have closed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with many citing staffing challenges. Another popular resort breakfast spot, The Pancake House in McCall, closed late last fall after selling the building to an as-yet-unidentified new owner.

From Italy to Boise to SV

Cook was born in Tuscany, Italy. Eventually, she found her way to Boise and with a partner, opened Everett Company restaurant in the 1980s. The restaurant eventually transitioned to a Ketchum location when her business partner died, according to a 2010 Sun Valley Magazine profile.

She moved to the current location on 2nd shortly after.

“Afterwards I said, ‘I guess I have to do it by myself.’ We borrowed a lot of money and I bought the building where I am now. My life has changed since then,” she laughs, “because I haven’t been home one day since.”

Cristina’s was known for an Italian-infused breakfast and brunch menu and in the summertime its extensive outdoor patio. The bakery cranked out cookies, breads, and pastries, served up with coffee to locals and visitors alike.

While the restaurant is closed, many of its recipes live on. Cook published a series of books – including Cristina’s of Sun Valley Cookbook, Cristina’s of Sun Valley Con Gusto and Cristina’s Tuscan Table.
