Old Rockies Diner won’t become a pho restaurant. ‘Over the top’ tattoo shop planned instead

In the summer of 2020, Rockies Diner on Overland Rd. in Boise served up shakes and burgers on skates for the last time. The long-running diner had been up for sale for several years, but a deal never came together.

208 Pho and Vegan announced it would take over the large diner spot, but the plan ultimately didn’t materialize.

Now, another new tenant is set for the old diner building.

Kendall Vader bought the building and land last year. He’s the owner of Born Weird Tattoo and Piercing, which currently has a location on Broadway Ave.

“Rockies… was cherished for so many great years but left dirty and neglected,” Vader said. “It will be transformed into a clean inviting tattoo and piercing gallery that the world has never seen the likes of. It will not only be the larges tattoo and piercing studio in Idaho but will also be the beacon of light for all that is weird, Born Weird Tattoo.”

Vader said he hopes to turn the building into a “new over the top Boise landmark,” with “curiosities,” as well as artwork and sculptures he and his father created.

Vader has not yet filed any permits with the City of Boise.
