Kristen Jackson started making candles almost a decade ago as a hobby. Now she is opening her third Lit & Co Candles location.
Jackson started Lit & Co in her spare room as a hobby while she worked at her supply chain job. After one of her first clients, Idaho Made, started selling a good deal of the candles and she found success on Etsy, Jackson decided to open a brick and mortar store in the Bodovino building.
Since then, her business has taken off.
The newest location will open in Indian Creek Plaza in Caldwell. Jackson did not release the exact location because the current tenant has not made their exit announcement. However, she said it has a “direct” view of the plaza.
“I wanted to be out in Caldwell in the Indian Creek area and I’ve been shopping for some locations for several months now,” Jackson said. “But this specific location, a business friend of mine has had this for a while, and ever since they moved in, I was like, Oh man, that’s where I want to be if I can have a choice… It took two weeks from finding out about it becoming available to signing the lease. So it all really just worked out in the end.”
The Caldwell location is about 500 square feet and like Jackson’s other locations, it will feature an assortment of around 80 fragrances with custom scents for the area- ones that are reminiscent of Caldwell. There will also be the option for customers to create their own scent.
“Each of our stores currently has its own personality,” Jackson said. “So for example, in Hyde Park, we have a local collection that features scents that are reminiscent of Hyde Park like Camel’s Back, we have Alturas scents like that. So I am 100% positive that we will also do a Canyon County, Caldwell focus out there as well.”
Jackson said the Caldwell Lit & Co location will likely operate under similar hours as her other locations. She wants to be open seven days a week depending on staffing.
Jackson is planning to open the third location in June. Lit & Co currently operates on State St. and Hyde Park.
“We’re really excited about it,” she said.
