Boise State will add large new video board to stadium, worth $4.5 million

The stadium on campus at Boise State University will get a new TV. A big one.

The school announced it would add a $4.5 million video board to the south end zone, replacing a small board currently in place in the area. The north end zone board will remain.

The new video board will measure 120 feet wide by 50 feet tall. That’s about 6,000 square feet in size – or roughly three times the square footage of the average home in the Boise area.

Boise State says it will be the largest video board installation in the Mountain West Conference.

The new video screen at Albertsons Stadium won’t be ready for the start of the upcoming season, but school officials say they expect it to be in place at some time during the 2022 season. A vendor for the project has not yet been selected, and the project will need approval from the Idaho State Board of Education.

The video board will be made possible by the largest-ever one-time donation to the athletics program, from Idaho Falls-based Melaleuca, a provider of wellness products sold via direct sales. The company is owned by Frank VanderSlot who Forbes ranks as the nation’s 368th richest person, with a net worth of $3.1. billion. Melaleuca will get branding on the sign itself.

“When it comes to TV screens and scoreboards, bigger is better,” said Melaleuca CEO Frank VanderSloot. “With a college football program as legendary as Boise State and a fanbase that encapsulates our entire state, the fans deserve a top-of-the-line video board worthy of Boise State’s reputation as a world-class football power.”
