Meridian City Council approves large 133-acre development

The Meridian City Council approved a large subdivision last night. 

Developer Brighton Development plans to build Apex West on over 133 acres on the north side of E. Lake Hazel Rd. west of S. Locust Grove Rd. 

The project consists of 205 single-family homes, space for single-family homes in the future, and a designated space for the future development for townhomes or multi-family apartments, according to the project application. 

Apex West would have a community pool and changing rooms, playgrounds, and multiple multi-use pathways.

The project would be phased out. Phase one would consist of 75 homes, phase two would add 71, phase three would add 61, and phase four is labeled as future development. 

In an earlier meeting, the area that was dedicated to future single family was expanded by around 40 acres. Part of that land is reserved for a future school. The application had to be continued twice in order to post a proper notice and allow public testimony. 

“(There is a) potential future elementary site that has been essentially reserved for consideration by the school district when they’re ready to move. So the rest of that whole 40 acres will be in a preliminary plat that would include a school site potentially for some future action by both planning commission and council.” Mike Wardle of Brighton said.
