Petite 4, the well-regarded bistro on Latah St. on the Boise Bench announced it would mostly close at the end of May.
“With very heavy hearts, we are shuttering dinner service at Petite4 at the end of May,” owners DK and Sarah Kelly wrote in an Instagram post. “The price of doing business in the present market has outpaced profitability. We are a micro-business without outside backing. We are not about to risk losing what we earned in a business that is so volatile right now.”
The duo first gained attention for downtown Boise sandwich shop Bleubird. They closed it and later launched the dinner-focused Petite 4. The eatery will continue its Coffee and Donuts service on Saturdays and will “offer occasional pop-ups” this summer after the dinner closure.
The restaurant opened before the COVID-19 pandemic, but saw business change significantly in the aftermath.
“It also brought the harsh realities of trying to run a restaurant during a pandemic,” the Kellys wrote. “Everyone knows supply chain issues, employee cost, employee availability concerns, fuel costs, and food price spikes have hurt our industry, but with a tiny spot like ours those problems were exacerbated.”
They said they hoped to stay open into next year but instead decided to stop now.
“The hardest part of this was telling our staff, and realizing we won’t be seeing them everyday. We love all of you and can’t thank you enough for making Petite4 what it was.”
