A downtown Boise sports bar known for its 44 beers on tap will soon have a second location.

Taphouse is opening a new restaurant and bar in Star off of Highway 16 and State St. in front of the Ridley’s market. Co-owner Justin Yochum says after doing a lot of market research, he believes Star is the perfect fit.

“We can pull in from the Middleton side of town and we can pull from Eagle,” Yochum said. “And you have got all the apartments and subdivisions within Star that are right in our backyard.”

The building Taphouse is moving into is currently empty. It features a more than 1,000 square foot patio that Yochum says will be covered.

“We’re most likely going to put sidewalls on it in the winter so that we can open those doors up and basically extend the restaurant in the winter in a real functional way,” Yochum said.

He added that there is a lot of work to do inside, including installing the kitchen and building the bar, but he is pushing to be open by September.

“We would love to be open by the NFL season.”

The downtown Taphouse location celebrated 10 years in business this past April. The restaurant serves a variety of American pub food and Yochum says the Star menu will be about 90% the same.
