A closed bank branch near the Boise Airport could be torn down to make way for a Starbucks location.
US Bank closed its so-called ”Skyway Vista” branch on Airport Way as part of a wave of closures in the last several years. The building remained vacant, and has been listed for lease.
Last week, a developer held a pre-application meeting with the City of Boise and presented a plan to tear down the existing one-story bank building with basement, and replace it with a new 2,500 square foot Starbucks coffee shop with drive-thru. The current US Bank building also includes a drive-thru.
Pre-application meetings do not always turn into formal applications, and the project may not move forward to that stage.
The meeting notes filed by the city indicates a hope to also use some of the parking lot for park and ride component for travelers in and out of the airport.
Starbucks operates more than 45 locations in the Boise area, including standalone stores and kiosks inside Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Ridley’s and Target stores. It is the largest coffee chain in the Treasure Valley as measured by number of locations.
