Construction starts on the McCall Public Library expansion

Construction is underway on the new multi-million dollar McCall Public Library expansion.

Residents and officials gathered earlier in August to watch crews officially start the project, which is beginning with demolishing the old neighboring fire station.

Once complete, the library will span 12,000 square feet on two stories. There will be a bookstore, computers, study rooms, and more.

The project was initially expected to cost about $6.2 million and the city passed a $4.2 million bond to help pay for it. Earlier this year BoiseDev reported that the project is now estimated to cost around $10 million.

The library is open during construction. There is no after-hours book drop so until announced, the library is asking items to be returned Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The expanded library is planned to be completed in May 2023.
