Star-News in McCall sold to New Jersey-based media company

This week, The Star-News in McCall published its first edition under new ownership.

New Jersey-based CherryRoad Media bought the Star-News and now owns 79 newspapers across 14 states, including papers in Kansas, Colorado, and Minnesota. CherryRoad Media, a product of CherryRoad Technologies, acquired its first newspaper in November 2020. The Star-News is the chain’s first purchase in Idaho.

In its announcement of the change, the Star-News noted that the CherryRoad CEO and Founder Jeremy Gulban said one “key objective” is connecting its technology and media sides.

“Our team at CherryRoad is excited to be the new owners of The Star-News. We look forward to introducing new technologies to the publication while maintaining the high standards of the printed newspaper. I have heard so many great things about the McCall community and look forward to visiting. Thank you to the Grote and Alford families for trusting us with the stewardship of The Star-News,” Gulban told the Star-News.

Central Idaho Publishing, a partnership between Tom and Tomi Grote of McCall and A.L. “Butch” Alford Jr. of Lewiston, owned the Star-News for almost 50 years.

The Star-News was a result of a 1967 merger between The Cascade News and the Payette Lakes Star.
