CLEAR sailing: Boise Airport to launch expedited security lane

Date:

The Boise Airport is adding a new service to get people through security quicker.

BOI announced that it’s implementing CLEAR expedited security lanes, which is an identity verification program.

You may have seen CLEAR lanes at other airports around the county- they are in about 40 airports nationwide. How it works is passengers must first enroll in CLEAR plus, which costs $16 per month and customers are billed annually. People can enroll either online or at a CLEAR pod in the airport, where the individual’s eyes or fingerprint will be saved to their profile.

Once enrolled, passengers can skip the regular security lanes and used the dedicated CLEAR lanes, which are marked. In the dedicated lane, passengers will step up to a pod, scan their boarding pass, verify their identity with their eyes or fingerprint instead of pulling out an ID, then a CLEAR ambassador will escort them to TSA physical security/ baggage screening.

CLEAR is not the same as TSA PreCheck. TSA PreCheck is a government program that identifies travelers deemed low-risk through a security threat assessment performed by TSA. In addition to expedited security screening, TSA PreCheck passengers also do not have to remove shoes, laptops, liquids, belts or light jackets.

CLEAR was founded in 2010. In addition to airports, CLEAR is also being implemented at stadiums and other venues that require security across the country.
