‘We’re trying to bring everyone together’: New Middle Eastern restaurant to open in Boise

After several months of delays, a new, authentic Middle Eastern restaurant is opening in Boise.

Sal’s Howdaj is located at 7100 W Fairview Avenue, which is the building that used to house Namaste Markets & Restaurant.

Owner Faisal Zaben says while the menu consists of authentic cuisine, Sal’s is aimed at appealing to a broad set of customers.

“We have the same Arabic tradition, but we’re trying to Americanize it, like to have it more modernized,” Zaben said. “If you go to go to any Arabic restaurant in Boise, it just really like screams Arabic to you. With Sal’s Howdaj, we’re trying to bring everyone together.”

At Sal’s, guests can order dishes such as sambusas, chicken kabobs, tabouli, falafel, humus, and much more. You can see more of the savory menu items on the Sal’s Howdaj Instagram account.

Zaben says he hoped to open Sal’s several months ago but there were permitting delays with The City of Boise. The grand opening is slated for this Saturday.

“This is basically a soft opening month,” Zaben said. “It’s the first time all the employees are getting together and we’ve just been training with them the last couple of weeks. We’re trying to be perfect, but some things may happen.”

After Saturday’s grand opening, Sal’s Howdaj will be open Monday through Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.
