123-year-old home could be torn down to make way for car wash

Last summer, we told you of a plan to build a warehouse on Franklin Rd. at the corner of Maple Grove Rd. The plan is off.

Kai Pacific hoped to build warehouse space at 8924 W. Franklin Rd. for four tenants. But the project did not move forward, and now a new plan is in the application stage.

A car wash.

KM Engineering applied with the City of Boise to build an Ultra Clean Car Wash. The facility would include a 6,700-square-foot car wash on the site near Boise Towne Square. The car wash would include a tunnel and 29 parking spaces for drying with vacuums.

There are several buildings on the site, including a house that was first built in 1900, according to Ada County property records. A large number of trees would also be removed and mitigated with new plantings, according to the application.

The project would need to win design review approval from the City of Boise to move forward. A hearing date has not yet been set.

The Treasure Valley has seen a large number of new car washes in recent years. We recently looked at some of the reasons why.
