You Asked: What’s going on near the Idaho Power lines in E. Boise?

If you’ve driven down Amity Rd. in East Boise lately, you might have seen construction crews at work in recent weeks.

On the east side of Amity, across from Weyerhauser and Hayden Beverage, is an Idaho Power corridor with a series of power lines. Work is under way to add a new distribution center and warehouse for Idaho Power crews.

“The Distribution Center as intended will be 36,242 s.f. of interior warehouse storage, 4,273 s.f. of business area including office spaces, training room, break room, and support spaces for the primary use areas,” David Blodgett or Rudeen Architects wrote in an application letter to the City of Boise last summer.

The plan calls for the new warehouse building directly across from Hayden Beverage, with a parking lot and dock area. To the north, a series of 20′ tall racking would go in, with staging and room for trailers. The site would be improved for a future storage area on the far north side of the property. Idaho Power will build a new deceleration lane from Amity Ln. for vehicles to enter the Idaho Power Property.

Existing power lines to the east of the buildings would remain.

It’s an area where a grass fire started on a hot and windy night in 2008 that destroyed ten homes and took the life of a Boise State professor. The fire was later traced to a damaged Idaho Power power pole and ruled accidental.
