Despite wet and cool weather, southern Idaho still in “severe” drought
Idaho water leaders say despite the above-normal rain, snow, and cooler temperatures during April and May, much of southern Idaho is still in a severe drought.
“It’s not been wet enough to pull us out of drought,” said David Hoekema, a hydrologist with the Idaho Department of Water Resources.
However, the recent wet and cool weather did help conditions some. According to IDWR, Idaho had near-record precipitation statewide in April, coming off near record-low precipitation in February and March. From April 1 through May 12, the state gained about 1-million acre-feet of additional water supply. Temperatures have been six to seven degrees below normal, which has helped preserve existing snowpack.
Officials say there’s a chance Lucky Peak Reservoir could fill, depending on how the snow runs off the mountain. In late April, the Army Core of Engineers said the reservoir would be 20 feet below “lake full” conditions.
Nampa restaurant to be on Food Network, you could be too
A Nampa restaurant will be featured on the Food Network and Idahoans have the opportunity to be on TV too.
Island Kine Grinds will be showcased on an episode of Restaurant Impossible. For those who haven’t seen the show, host Robert Irvine is tasked with saving a failing restaurant. Irvine and his team have 48 hours and a $10,000 budget to turn the joint around and make it profitable again.
Crews will film May 24-25. There are two opportunities to be part of the show. Anyone interested in being a paid volunteer to help paint, decorate, remodel, and clean the restaurant should email [email protected] by May 20. Include your full name, email address and cell, and any related skills you have. Use the subject line “2016 / ISLAND KINE GRINDS Volunteer.” A producer will contact you if you have been selected.
